Versatility is the key feature of the GraphixWall™ electronic LED display.
GraphixWall is a full matrix tricolor or monochrome electronic LED display that combines the functionality of several different Trans-Lux displays into a single adaptable product. With the use of custom software, GraphixWall posts text, plots charts and graphs, scrolls messages and streams stock quotes.
GraphixWall can be used to display both text and graphical data, giving it a unique flexibility. The software interface allows sections of the electronic display to be modified independently so that static elements, continuous live data streams and periodically updated information can be combined on a single electronic display. The ability to produce variable sized fonts and foreign language characters make this monochrome or tricolor electronic LED display truly universal.
Graphic elements including bitmaps, symbols, foreign character sets, charts and graphs can be displayed on GraphixWall. PC-resident Windows® fonts can easily be used as bitmaps for unrestricted size, placement and language options.
GraphixWall applications include:
- Airports, train stations, and other transportation facilities to post arrivals and departures
- Call centers to monitor call metrics
- Convention centers, malls and other public places to direct crowds and post announcements
- Anywhere you want to combine text and graphics in your messages.
GraphixWall Technology
A standard GraphixWall is constructed using next-generation managed module blocks that employ static drive technology to avoid flicker while increasing the life of the LEDs. Dynamic tricolor LEDs are capable of displaying red, green or amber plus black (unlit LED). Single color units are available in Hi-Brite amber or blue. Ambient lighting conditions and light filtering issues should be considered when selecting colors. In the event of power or communications interruption, GraphixWall's internal processor retains the last message received. The electronic display continues as normal when power or data is restored.
Construction
GraphixWall is manufactured using 8 x 32 pixel modules. Fixed display sizes range from a minimum of 16 pixels high and 64 pixels wide to 64 pixels high and 384 pixels wide. GraphixWall's modern enclosure features a black aluminum extrusion with rounded corners.

Character Sizes
GraphixWall is a full matrix electronic display that is measured in terms of pixels - or “dots” - rather than characters. GraphixWall can show fonts in many sizes; however, it is equipped with three internal fonts. Although the internal fonts use proportional spacing, the approximate number of ASCII characters a particular display is able to show on a single line can be calculated by dividing the pixel width of the display by the average character width (see chart below). For example, a GraphixWall that is 192 pixels wide can display 32, 2.1" characters (192 ÷ 6 = 32).
Average Character Width in Pixels
Internal Font Size | Number of Pixels High | Average Character Width |
2.1" | 7 | 6 |
3.0" | 10 | 8 |
4.2" | 14* | 12 |
8.4" | 25** | 17 |
| *When using lower case letters with descenders, height is 16 pixels |
| **When using lower case letters with descenders, height is 25 pixels |

Software Options
Trans-Lux GraphixWall Interface Specification allows users to write their own applications and communicate to the display through a TCP/IP or serial connection.
Page Composeris a simple text-based application that allows the user to compose up to five pages of ASCII text for a 2.1” high character, change text colors and define display time.
iCandy is a subscription package that provides Internet-based data-feeds to the GraphixWall.
PictureComposer is a client server, graphical interface that allows text content in different fonts, sizes and colors (display must be tricolor), bitmap images, line drawing capability, scrolling and cut transitions. This software does not support serial connections.
